About This Campaign

LNG export plans are rushing forward in BC without proper government oversight of safety and security risks.  For example, unlike the United States, Canada does not require that LNG proponents evaluate safety and security risks along LNG tanker routes.  Canada also does not have a hazardous substance spill preparedness and response regime in place. As a result, BC is NOT prepared to deal with the dangerous consequences of a serious accident or deliberate attack on an LNG tanker.

These regulatory gaps are unacceptable.  Our governments must prioritize public safety and protection of the environment ahead of the rushed approval of LNG exports.  This campaign is calling on all candidates in the BC provincial election to take a stand on this issue: NO LNG exports from BC until a comprehensive regulatory regime is put place to protect the public from security and safety risks caused by this industry.
