Privacy Policy

This privacy policy is designed to protect personal information you provide on this website.

Collecting Personal Information

The purpose of this website is to provide opportunities for the public to comment to candidates and government on issues relating to LNG development in British Columbia. When you visit this site and access information, you are anonymous. We do not require you to provide personal information to view it.

The commenting process is facilitated by RealHearings.org on behalf of the following partner organizations: Voters Taking Action on Climate Change, My Sea To Sky, Skeena Wild and Saanich Inlet Network.  Your name is collected when you comment in order to identify your comment in the publicly accessible comments archive.

Your postal code is collected to enable us to identify your provincial and federal electoral ridings, and to identify your approximate location on the site map relative to LNG projects in BC.  Your city is collected to help confirm your riding. Your approximate location is never made public. Your election riding is made public along with your comment. Your postal code is included along with your message to candidates and representatives to provide confirmation that you are a voter in your riding.

Your email address is collected to send with your comment to candidates and other decision makers so that they can respond to you directly. We also use your email address to send you a confirmation that your comment has been sent. Unless you indicate that you want to stay in touch about this campaign, we will not contact you again after sending you that confirmation message.

If you indicate you wish to receive updates from RealHearings or the partner organizations about this campaign, we will retain your email address in our records, and, if you choose to provide one, your telephone number. We do this to provide you with information and opportunities for action that may be valuable to you during the BC election and afterwards as we continue to push for strong action on LNG. If you choose to receive updates we will also retain your postal code so we can send you emails specific to your MP and MLA and LNG projects in your region.

If you indicate you wish to receive updates, in future you will only be contacted by the organization working on the focus LNG project closest to the community you indicated when you filled out the form. If you are not located near one of the LNG projects that are the focus of this campaign, in future you will only be contacted by RealHearings.org about LNG issues.

Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL)

RealHearings.org complies with CASL and we are committed to making sure you only get the email communications that you want from us. You may stop receiving email at any time by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.

RealHearings does not send any Commercial Electronic Messages as defined by CASL, but we take all steps to ensure that we have your consent to send you electronic communications such as emails.

For the purposes of this policy we define Commercial Electronic Messages (CEM) to be electronic messages that have as one of their purposes an encouragement to participate in a commercial activity, including messages that include:

(a) offers to purchase, sell, barter or lease a product, goods, a service, or land;

(b) offers to provide a business, investment or gaming opportunity;

(c) advertises or promotes anything referred to in paragraph (a) or (b); or

(d) promotes a person, including the public image of a person, as being a person who does anything referred to in any of paragraphs (a) to (c), or who intends to do so.*

Since RealHearings.org does not send CEMs we are exempt from the sections of CASL [paragraph 6(1)(a)] that require implied or express consent to be obtained from recipients of Commercial Electronic Messages.

However, because we are committed to protecting your privacy and avoiding unwanted email we have the following policy in place to provide additional clarity to electronic message subscribers. All web forms on RealHearings.org’s websites contain opt-in check boxes to allow you to provide express consent to receive further email from us, along with a description of communications a subscriber will expect to receive by entering their email address into one of our forms or websites, and how they can terminate their subscription.

In addition to the above RealHearings.org always clearly identifies itself as the sender of any electronic messages and provides a clear unsubscribe link in the footer of each message.**
